This week in Whales

We have had a lovely week in Whales with the children working really hard to finish their 'special work.' We were really proud of all of them.

Some children were lucky enough to be selected out of the hat to go to a cricket tournament at Flordon Cricket Club and they had a fantastic time and were exceptionally well behaved.

Thank you to Mrs Dresser and Mrs Jones who went with the children.

The children who stayed behind did some work on how bees make honey and learnt about how this happens. They began working on some amazing posters to share their knowledge and tried try some honey too. We tried runny honey, set honey, acacia honey and local Mulbarton honey. Runny honey was the most popular in our vote!

What a brilliant afternoon we had! We hope you enjoy looking at our pictures.

Film Review Writing

Yesterday in Whales class we watched 'The Bee Movie' so that we could write some film reviews of it. We worked really hard on our writing this morning and tried our best to include some of the key features of film reviews such as a summary of the plot without giving away the ending, our opinions and who we would recommend the film for. We loved doing this writing and worked really hard.

We were also really lucky to have the girls from Whales class who are in the choir perform their songs for us at the end of the day. They also performed in the Upper School Assembly this morning. They sang beautifully and we were really proud of them.

Have a lovely weekend everyone! We are looking forward to some more fantastic learning next week.

Today we have been enjoying the sunshine and working outside.  Some children chose to sit at the table and when finished they sat in the reflection area reading.  Let's hope the sunshine continues!!

Wizard Workshop in Year 4

Children in Whales had an exciting treat today when we went to Giraffes class to watch some potion making. The Year 4 children performed some potion making for us and used excellent descriptive language and performance skills. We had to evaluate how well we thought they had done. They did a marvellous job and we were also an excellent audience. We sat beautifully and listened carefully throughout.Miss Argyle congratulated us on our excellent behaviour so we all felt very proud.

Thank you Giraffes and Miss Argyle for inviting us. We really enjoyed it!

Making cars

We have been very busy in Whales class this week making cars using plastic cartons and bottles, art straws, cotton reels and balloons to power them.

We worked very hard to think about how the different parts of our car would be made. We then tested our cars to see how far they would travel using the balloon to make them move. We came up with some very interesting results and found out that the balloons only worked to power the smaller, lighter cars not the heavier ones.

We also thought of some other interesting questions to investigate if we were to do this experiment again such as what would happen if we used more than one balloon? We also wondered how our results would change if we used a stronger material for the axles. We had great fun and were really focussed when carrying out the task.

World Book Day in Year 2

We have had a fantastic day in Whales class celebrating World Book Day!

The day began with a whole school assembly where Mrs Bird launched the day and told us what we would be doing. We then returned to the Year 2 base and completed activities for the rest of the morning.
In the afternoon we got into our houses and circle time groups and completed a world book day quiz in the hall which was great fun. We had a picture round where we had to say which characters were on the sheet, a question round and a music round where we listened to pieces of music from films based on books and had to say which book the music related to. It was great fun! At the end of the day all of the adults read a book in a different place around school and we chose which one we went to hear.

In the Year 2 base we listened to the story Aliens Love Underpants and did four different activities to do with this. These were

Making a rocket bookmark
Designing our own symmetrical underpants or making a symmetrical alien using paint
Investigating magnets
Writing a story about having a pet alien

The children looked fabulous in their outfits and the aliens who had arrived at school today were very impressed with the costumes the children had come in!
