Wizard Workshop in Year 4

Children in Whales had an exciting treat today when we went to Giraffes class to watch some potion making. The Year 4 children performed some potion making for us and used excellent descriptive language and performance skills. We had to evaluate how well we thought they had done. They did a marvellous job and we were also an excellent audience. We sat beautifully and listened carefully throughout.Miss Argyle congratulated us on our excellent behaviour so we all felt very proud.

Thank you Giraffes and Miss Argyle for inviting us. We really enjoyed it!

Making cars

We have been very busy in Whales class this week making cars using plastic cartons and bottles, art straws, cotton reels and balloons to power them.

We worked very hard to think about how the different parts of our car would be made. We then tested our cars to see how far they would travel using the balloon to make them move. We came up with some very interesting results and found out that the balloons only worked to power the smaller, lighter cars not the heavier ones.

We also thought of some other interesting questions to investigate if we were to do this experiment again such as what would happen if we used more than one balloon? We also wondered how our results would change if we used a stronger material for the axles. We had great fun and were really focussed when carrying out the task.

World Book Day in Year 2

We have had a fantastic day in Whales class celebrating World Book Day!

The day began with a whole school assembly where Mrs Bird launched the day and told us what we would be doing. We then returned to the Year 2 base and completed activities for the rest of the morning.
In the afternoon we got into our houses and circle time groups and completed a world book day quiz in the hall which was great fun. We had a picture round where we had to say which characters were on the sheet, a question round and a music round where we listened to pieces of music from films based on books and had to say which book the music related to. It was great fun! At the end of the day all of the adults read a book in a different place around school and we chose which one we went to hear.

In the Year 2 base we listened to the story Aliens Love Underpants and did four different activities to do with this. These were

Making a rocket bookmark
Designing our own symmetrical underpants or making a symmetrical alien using paint
Investigating magnets
Writing a story about having a pet alien

The children looked fabulous in their outfits and the aliens who had arrived at school today were very impressed with the costumes the children had come in!

An exciting morning at UEA

What an exciting day we have had!

Today we visited UEA Sportspark to launch our 'Bounce' topic. We took part in 3 different bouncy activities during the morning. We did Spring Gymnastics, table tennis and tennis. We enjoyed all the activities and used many different skills including balance, coordination, agility and working collaboratively.

We had a fantastic day and the children were brilliantly behaved. We hope you enjoy looking at the photographs we took.

Thank you so much to all the parents who came along to help us today, we really appreciate it.
Have a lovely weekend!

Maths cafe

What a wonderful Maths Cafe we had in Year 2 on Monday morning!

It was lovely to see the children sharing with their grown-ups how they represent number in different ways.

Thank you to those who left some lovely feedback, it is always nice to hear positive comments.

We are really looking forward to seeing you again for our Masterpiece Art exhibition on Tuesday 20th February after school in the classrooms. The children can't wait to show you their work!

Famous Paintings

In Whales this week we have been very busy recreating some famous paintings. We cut some paintings into pieces and then each painted a piece. We learnt about brush strokes and textures and also practised our colour mixing. We put the small pieces of the paintings back together like a jigsaw puzzle. We were really focussed and aspirational, trying our best to make the paintings as close to the real ones as possible.

We have displayed our art work in the corridor if you would like to come and have a look at them. We think they look amazing and are very proud of our hard work!

What a busy week!

We have had a wonderful week in Whales class filled with lots of fun activities.

A group of children from Sharks and Whales had a very exciting day at Open in Norwich performing in the Dance Showcase event. We hope to add a video onto our blog very soon. We were all very proud of the children who took part. They were a credit to the school with their enthusiasm and excellent behaviour.

The children who stayed at school had a lovely afternoon learning about Aboriginal art and were extremely focussed when producing their own paintings using cotton buds to create the dots.

Here are some examples
